Who is this guy and what’s this all about?
I’m in my 16th year as a recruiter. In my third year, I became an “internal” recruiter – where and had to see and work with the people I hired after they got the job.
Man, was it that eye-opening!
I realized the impact I have on people when I help them get work. Over the years more than 727 recruiting experiences convinced me that there is something sacred and fundamentally simple about matching people with jobs.
- Sacred because employers and employees owe it to each other to make good matches: it’s too important to you to go somewhere you don’t want to be, and too important to them to not have someone on the team who’s not in it with a full heart.
- Simple because it just isn’t as hard as we make it…if we stop flailing around with the wrong tools and start using the right ones.
Three years ago, a former co-worker asked me to help her with her job search. I began by teaching her what I was learning about direct-response-marketing and the lessons helped her land in precisely the right job. She built the picture in her head and heart. She learned how to market herself. She did the work. And she ended up in a place where she was the missing, very valuable piece to some team’s puzzle.
It was so much fun I turned my attention full-time from recruiting to helping individual, professional job seekers who want MORE than a paycheck, who want to land in a job that they can love and that will love them back.
So here are some FAQ’s about Scott and what I do as Most Placeable Candidate:
Q: Who are you and why are you qualified to help me get better at looking for work?
A: I’m a recruiter and marketing student who knows it’s not about the inputs…it’s all about the outcomes.
After 16 years of recruiting and 727 hires, I know a LOT about what happens between candidates, hiring managers and their proxies in the hiring game. Even if you don’t think that’s a big number, hopefully you recognize that I’ve literally been the confidant of both parties in the middle of hundreds of successful hires.
Right there in the seemy underbelly…managing expectations, clarifying communications, dealing with all sorts of idiocy, making the right matches happen and blowing the wrong ones up when it was called for.
I’ve been a headhunter (retained and contingent), agency recruiter (for IT staffing firms), and have been an HR employee as both recruiter and HR Manager. I’ve built seven recruiting platforms as a consultant or employee, most starting from scratch. I built and sold job postings on a job board. I’ve worked in multiple industries and helped hire people for hourly blue-collar jobs, college interns and grads, professionals of all stripes and executives all the way to the C-level.
I have written and delivered interview training to dozens of hiring teams, front line management boot camps and HR legal training, so I know what you should be prepared for when you walk in the door.
That’ s long way of saying, I’m qualified because I’ve ‘been there, done that’ when it comes to hiring.
Q: What else – lots of people have recruiting experience…
A: I am a student and successful practicioner of direct marketing for the last four years, studying Dan Kennedy, Bill Glazer, Perry Marshall and a host of others who think about results like I do.
These people teach small and large businesses how to understand their market, build products that fit, and then market and sell to them again and again. When it comes to understanding how to market and sell anything, these guys are the best.
So what you get from me is intimate, studied knowledge of how and why people get hired combined with the power of direct marketing, and coaching systems to help you implement and succeed in your job search. The benefits to you?
- You stand out in the crowd, on paper or in interviews.
- You can identify and attack the real issues in any job, so you’re not eliminated over something that’s not on a job description but not actually important.
- You can tie your unique-ness to someone’s needs in ways that make you ‘slap-in-the-face obvious.’
- You find more advertised and unadvertised jobs and deal with them in less time.
- You can go around the HR line and get to the potential managers and team members you need to talk to.
- You “sell” yourself in interviews effectively, feeling 100% comfortable and ‘non-salesy.’
And a LOT more.
Q: Can’t I just read about this and learn what I need to know
A: Sure – I just spent the last four years studying direct marketing, and about 16 learning what makes hiring tick. Besides the first-hand experience, everything I know I learned from someone else. The information is out there and much of it is free…it’s the learning curve that costs a lot! I offer you a shortcut to mastery you absolutely won’t find anywhere else you look.
Q: Is this outplacement or career counseling?
A: Neither…outplacement is often either run by unemployed human resources people (the same ones who designed and love the completely inane systems you can’t get past to get hired) or people who are academics and trainers.
VERY FEW of them have any marketing or actual high-volume recruiting experience. And most of those programs are self-help programs…no real ‘over the shoulder’ coaching.
I don’t want to help you format your resume or choose a nicer font. I give you low-down, hard-hitting tactics to help you get off the dime and get some interviews going where you’re the ’slap-in-the-face-obvious’ choice.
Q: Then how do you help people?
A: Depends on the need.
- Some people are only missing a small part of a good job hunting system, so I fill in that part with informational products, all of which come with ‘implementation consulting’ help, so you learn the theory and then get help implementing.
- Others want a low-key introductory program, and I have that as well.
- Still others want a broader-scope program where they can get a complete re-build of their marketing. These folks have the option of group activities, which offers them a lower cost, less one-on-one time, but a group of people to learn, grow and share with. These are fast-paced and offer a variety of optional features, like hiring a trained copywriter to build all your marketing materials.
- And I have customized, individual coaching (coach, consultant, writer, agent, buddy) for those who want a platinum-level service that catapults them faster and more surely.
Q: What do you guarantee?
A: NO ONE can guarantee you a job. If you’re talking with someone and they say they can, send me the agreement and let me help you read it. There are companies out there who make you think they are guaranteeing you a job – they aren’t. If they ask you for a boat-load of money up front, run.
My job is to help you grasp what’s unique and marketable about yourself, fashion it into more powerful marketing, and then get it into the ‘jet stream’ of opportunities for what you do. So my guarantee is built around that.
It differs slightly for each product, but each service’s guarantee is pretty much a version of this:
I Don’t Want Your Money If I Can’t Improve What You’re Doing.
You Decide. No Questions Asked.
Q: How much is it and is it worth it?
A: Depends on the product. Is it worth it – here’s a simple formula:
- Add up how much you net in income per month.
- Multiply times the number of months you haven’t been working (and/or the amount of time you think you still have before you’re employed again).
- Add in the aggravation and stress you’re feeling because your finances are dwindling.
- Add in cost of the painful looks and comments you’re enduring from well-meaning friends, family and former co-workers
- Add in the humiliation of not knowing what the heck you’re doing wrong or when you can make it stop and get back on track.
For my average client (earning $82,000 per year and out of work for 5 months before they hire me) that means they have lost $34,000 in cash alone.
What it would be worth to stop what you’re losing? I guarantee I can help you for a LOT LESS than that. Actual prices are on each product description web page.
Q: How Long Does it Take?
Answer: To learn the concepts and implement them is usually a 6-8 week process depending on which program you choose; for employed clients, it can take more time, for unemployed, less.
How long to get a job – depends on you and the market. First, you MUST implement…knowledge alone won’t change anything, you have to use, practice and perfect the use of these concepts to get new work.
And while I can help you find and get more opportunities from the existing market, I can’t create more jobs…if you’re a senior-level person, or working in a market that doesn’t exist, or trying to jump from one occupation to another, you will still face a lack of opportunities overall that will make your search longer.
My systems help you maximize what’s there, they don’t make more opportunities magically fall out of the sky.
Q: Who WON’T Benefit from Your Services?
Answer: In general, I can help any professional job seeker with track record, who’s having a tough time because of the market. But if you are any of these, it will take longer or I might not be the best person for you. (To find out for sure, feel free to get an X-Ray):
- Not interested in doing introspective work.
- Not interested in learning, DOING new things or taking direction/coaching advice.
- Obvious, hindering black marks on your employment record (getting fired, job hopper, etc.)
- Completely changing careers.
- Just getting started in a career or returning to work after years away from the professional world.
